Field|force

Series

Field|force series creates ephemeral structures with magnetic fields and water. Surface tension and magnetic fields are the only 'containers,' revealing the unseen forces that surround us.

This series combines ephemeral objects made of powders held in magnetic fields integrating them with structures made of water. Surface tension and magnetic fields are the only 'containers', so the pieces are ephemeral and easily disrupted.

The elements of each piece change daily as temperature, humidity, and other environmental factors change, or as people interact with them. Western science including physics, chemistry, and biology provide one way, but not the only way, to describe the natural phenomena affecting aspects of our bodies, our actions and our lives. We are formed and structured by, positioned in, and reacting to hidden parameters as we make our way through the world. Each of these pieces is an apparatus allowing us to observe those hidden forces in a new way.

Each piece must be "fed" in order to maintain the structures. The elements of each piece change daily as temperature, humidity and other environmental factors change, or as people interact with them.

This series works with magnetic fields, hydrophobic and hydrophilic substances, and surface tension to create and maintain structures from substances that many of us do not normally recognize as having 'form.'
